The new WSMA Foundation for Health Care Improvement gets underway
At its meeting in May 2010 the Membership of the WSM-Education and Research Foundation (WSM-ERF) adopted new Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws to create a new Foundation now called WSMA Foundation for Health Care Improvement.
The Foundation's charge is to:
- Help physicians understand and adapt to ongoing changes in health care delivery and reimbursement.
- Support information-based care.
- Promote best practices.
- Promote reductions in unsupportable variations in care.
- Improve patient safety, and
- Educate physicians on how to meet these goals.
Support the Foundation by making a tax-deductible contribution.

WSMA Foundation for Health Care Improvement officers elected
The Foundation Board, at its June 29, 2011 meeting elected the following three officers:
- President: Jeffrey B. Collins, MD (IM, Spokane)
- Vice President: Susanne U. Quistgaard, MD (FP, Edmonds)
- Secretary/Treasurer: Mr. Brett Vandenberg (CFO, Pediatrics Associates, Bellevue/Kirkland)
The board also welcomed its public member, Mr. Ken Hamm, CEO of First Choice, to the board. Other board members include: Drs. Nick Rajacich (ORS, Tacoma), Deb Harper (PED, Spokane), John Vassall (IM, Seattle), and Scott Kronlund (IM, Puyallup). Lance Heineccius is the Foundation’s Director for Performance Improvement.
The Board also is working on a five year strategic plan for the Foundation which has gotten off to a very strong start in its first year of operations with the launching of the Clinical Performance Improvement Network (CPIN) program, among other activities.
Lance Heineccius named Director of Performance Improvement of the Foundation
Effective July 19, 2010 well known and highly respected health care policy consultant Lance Heineccius will join our team as the Foundation's Director of Performance Improvement.
Lance has over 30 years of experience in performance measurement, managing health care services development efforts, program evaluation and system design. Lance is very well regarded in the health care community. He was the initial program director for the Puget Sound Health Alliance from September 2005 thru February 2007. During his career, Lance also has worked for First Choice, William Mercer, KPMG Peat Marwick and the late state Health Services Commission.
Performance learning projects and assisting members regarding Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) are at the top of his agenda at this point. Lance will be working with WSMA senior staff and the Foundation board to define and implement strategic initiatives in these areas.
