WSMA Physician Assistant Members
Participation in the Federation of Medicine is very important to today's physician assistants who wish to keep abreast of the medical profession. The only requirement for WSMA membership is that you be licensed by the State Board of Medical Examiners. As a Physician Assistant Member, you do not have the right to vote or hold office, however your Physician Assistant Delegate or Alternate to the House of Delegates may vote while carrying out the function of the position. The dues are $75 per year and all of the applicable WSMA Member Benefits are available to you.
WSMA Medical Student Members
As you begin your career in medicine, participation in the Federation of Medicine is very important to keep abreast of your profession. Our Medical Student Members are full-time students with the University of Washington School of Medicine, and "making satisfactory progress toward the attainment of the degree of doctor of medicine" (WSMA Bylaws). As a Medical Student Member, you do not have the right to vote or hold office, however the Student Trustee and Student Delegate or Alternate to the House of Delegates may vote while carrying out the function of the position. University of Washington medical students can apply for membership FREE of charge.
WSMA Resident Members
The WSMA Resident Member is a "resident, fellow or other physician engaged in formal postgraduate medical training in an institution approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association" (WSMA Bylaws). Dues for residents are only $25 per year, or $50 for three years of membership.
Retired Members
A WSMA Retired Member is a physician "who has been qualified for active membership, has retired from active practice, and who has been a member in good standing in one or more constituent or component associations of the American Medical Association for twenty-five years" (WSMA Bylaws). There are no dues required for the Retired Members.

WSMA Active Members
The WSMA Active Member is a physician who:
(a) holds the degree of Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of
Osteopathy, or Bachelor of Medicine which has been issued
by an institution accepted by the Washington State Board
of Medical Examiners...
(b) holds a license to practice medicine in the State
of Washington, or...is eligible for medical licensure
in Washington,
(c) resides or practices in the State of Washington,
(d) maintains membership in the county medical society
if that county medical society is a Unified
County,
(e) abides by the Principles of Ethics of the Washington
State Medical Association, and
(f) does not practice or claim to practice any school
or system of sectarian medicine or healing. (WSMA Bylaws)
