Launch Your Leadership Journey with the Physician Leadership Course
Hybrid distance, March 22-May 31, 2024
The WSMA Physician Leadership Course, led by Ed Walker, MD, MHA, is an 11-week hybrid-distance leadership skills-development course for physicians and physician assistants who want to know more about health care leadership. Without core leadership competencies-skills not taught in medical school-physicians may find themselves unprepared and overburdened with unexpected responsibilities in their careers-a recipe for burnout. The WSMA Physician Leadership Course helps physicians develop the skills they need to thrive professionally in today's health care environment, regardless of the type or size of their organization.
The hybrid-distance course combines face-to-face and online learning to enable participants to begin developing and honing their leadership skills at their convenience. Designed with a physician's busy schedule in mind, only three in-person classes, held at the Silver Cloud Hotel in Seattle, are required; the remainder of the course is conducted online.
In-person sessions will be held Friday and Saturday, March 22 and 23, followed by 11 weeks of online instruction and interaction and a final in-person session on Friday, May 31. The course is led by Edward A. Walker, MD, MHA, professor emeritus in the departments of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and health services at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Walker is the senior advisor for WSMA's Center for Leadership Development.
