State Agencies Consider Artificial Intelligence Policies, WSMA Feedback
The WSMA recently reviewed and submitted a comment on the Washington Medical Commission's proposed policy on artificial or assistive intelligence (available beginning at page 17 here). WSMA's AI Committee reviewed the proposed policy and raised concerns around the onus it puts on physicians to know and understand potentially proprietary information about AI algorithms. In addition to submitting comment, the WSMA also shared its AI Principles document to help guide future discussion and policymaking at WMC regarding AI. The WSMA will share this feedback again for the record at the WMC's upcoming interested parties meeting.
The WSMA also recently submitted a letter requesting the attorney general's office to add a physician representative from the WSMA to its Artificial Intelligence Task Force subcommittee on Health Care and Accessibility. WSMA staff is meeting with representatives from the attorney general's office to discuss how WMSA physician representatives may be able to participate in the subcommittee as stakeholders.
